Holy Lord. Another gem I've been missing. I understand about 3/4ths of it (is there a Whatevs glossary?), and I need a couple aspirin after, but it's great stuff.
And I'm with Uncle Grambo when it comes to David Edelstein. He's tops. You read the discussion at The Movie Club and you're like, "Okay, this is why these people get paid to do this. I am dumb."
Posted by Jim Treacher at January 9, 2004 04:11 AMJim, I'm with you on the dumb thing. I mean, not that you are dumb, but that I am dumb, too. Edelstein and A.O. Scott almost make me not want to ever write about film ever. And I don't even agree with (some of) their top ten lists.
Posted by: Missy at January 9, 2004 04:34 PMHuh. (Re Edelstein) I just see a lot of literary name-dropping. Yay, you can quote Oscar Wilde. Can we move on? (Full disclosure: my favorite snob movie critic is the Evil, Ancient, Über-Conservative John Simon. Why read the pupil's work when you can read the master's?)
