So can we come up with a term for getting paid off to support political candidates on one's blog, without using the word "blog" in the coinage?

How about payURLa? ("Blogola" is okay, but it brings to mind inexpensive sandwich meats. "My blogola has a first name, it's D-A-I-L-Y...")

(Or how about The Knack? "Dun-dun DIH-DIH dun-DIH, dun-DIH, dun-dun-DIH dun-dun-dun-DIH-DIH, dun-DIH... MY blogola! Ooooh my little greasy one, my sleazy one, Dean paid for the use of your TIME, blogola!" Etc.)

Tall order. How about these?

Movable Hype

Pajama Payola

Trackbucks

Quid pro click

RSShilling

Hacksterism [cf. 'hucksterism']

Clickback [cf. 'kickback']

Ineffectual/counterproductive? Oh, wait, that's the result.

I like Pajama Payola.

What about "kossing" as in "The web site was kossing for Howard Dean?"

Posted by: basil at January 16, 2005 03:11 AM

How about "Laucking out," as in the only blogger who has actually committed this offense?

Posted by: Geek, Esq. at January 16, 2005 04:20 AM

Clickback is good, I like that one.

Posted by: Jim Treacher at January 16, 2005 05:25 AM

I like "trackbucks." By the way, who the fuck is this "Lauck" person that Geek is obsessing about? Excuse my French.

Posted by: Andrea Harris at January 16, 2005 07:34 AM

I googled and found this lady's site: http://www.jenniferlauck.com/letstalk.htm. Looks like she writes and maybe has (or will have, I didn't read her whole site) some published works. Gosh, Geek, I hope you're not against writers selling their works, that's a little over the top.

Posted by: Andrea Harris at January 16, 2005 07:38 AM

"Trackbucks" is my favorite so far, too. Although I do like Treacher's Blogola song.

Andrea, looks like "Lauck" is a Thune blogger who also took money to be a "consultant".

This is a great example of leftist hypocrisy, though: if Lauck *is* guilty of doing something unethical, then *so is Kos*. But as usual, they want it both ways.

Posted by: carsonfire at January 16, 2005 09:55 AM

They kicked me out of the boy scouts for wanting it both ways!

Posted by: Sortelli at January 16, 2005 04:58 PM

"Kossing" all the way.

Posted by: Nash Kato at January 16, 2005 05:13 PM

The answer, of course, is "Kos-opted".

Willising - Like Kryptonite to Integrity.

"Bleet" (blog + geet, slang for crack). Homonym might unfairly implicate Lileks.

Etherpundit may hate me because he was so close, and I wouldn't have seen it if Instapundit hadn't linked to his anagram post.

Click pro quo.

Thune???

Posted by: Andrea Harris at January 18, 2005 06:04 PM

Oh I see -- it's a person's name. Too bad -- I was hoping it was some sort of weird sex toy cult. "The Thune bloggers are going to meet up at Borders and compare their thunes."

Posted by: Andrea Harris at January 18, 2005 06:06 PM

how about Blog-gelt or Blog-geld?
Willising only applies if the payoff is edible.

Posted by: Ira at January 20, 2005 10:25 AM

I like blogola. Reminds me of spam for junk e-mail.

Posted by: Andy at January 22, 2005 01:23 PM

JimC, I actually think "click pro quo" is a slight improvement over "quid pro click" -- but it is a little bit more of a tongue twister, IMO. I certainly don't hate you for improving on my idea, though if I were the bitter type I might hate you for calling me "he" when I'm a female. But fortunately, I'm not the bitter type. :^)

Ira, is your idea playing off "danegelt"? I might be wrong, but I think danegelt is more along the lines of protection money, rather than "you scratch my back, I'll scratch yours." On the other hand, who's to say that bloggers wouldn't be paid protection money? Hmm. How can I get in on this racket?
