I don't think 99% of the American press is trying to cover for John Edwards just because he's a Democrat. But they're certainly not in as big of a hurry to report on his second family as they'd be if he were a Republican. I've always been skeptical about cries of liberal media bias, but if this isn't evidence of it, I don't know what is. Here we are a week later, and they've let a bunch of limeys beat them to the story. Who would have thought a lightweight, blow-dried ambulance chaser like Edwards could make the entire mainstream media tie itself into knots?
As for what I think we should call this phenomenon, see headline.
P.S. In the comments to the story linked above, Richard from Encinitas left this:
The Los Angeles Times is diligently investigating this story. Early research by the Times indicates that Beverly Hills is likely an incorporated city located somewhere near L.A. Rumors are that several hotels have been built there, although this has not been reliably confirmed.

Folks, I don't wanna say John Edwards has an illegitimate baby, but the kid's got John's eyes and Rielle Hunter's meal ticket!

Why did Rielle Hunter cross the road?
To get to the BMW on the other side, which was bought for her by John Edwards!

Why is Rielle Hunter like a fully stocked lake?
They both produce "bass-turds"!

What will John Edwards' illegitimate child be when he grows up?
Older!

What's the difference between Rielle Hunter and the wind?
The wind only blows your husband when he's outside!

How do you get John Edwards to play with his illegitimate baby?
Put it in front of a mirror!

(Hey, I didn't say they were funny jokes...)
Update:
John Edwards was naughty
The whole country's talkin'
But it's not a story
And P.S. Keep rockin'!
